IJ4EU grantees and experts will share their expertise at a global gathering of journalists May 22-24, 2024.
IJ4EU grantees and experts will play a prominent role in the 2024 IPI World Congress and Media Innovation Festival, which brings together top journalists, editors and publishers from around the world in Sarajevo from May 22 to 24, 2024.
Under the theme “Navigating Crises: Journalism at a Turning Point”, the event will provide a space for media professionals, thought leaders and innovators to explore new solutions, foster understanding and critically examine the role of the media in addressing the great crises of our time.
Highlights include:
- Carlos Dada, an award-winning Salvadoran journalist who chairs the independent jury of IJ4EU’s Investigation Support Scheme, will moderate a panel session titled Crisis and resilience: Upholding press freedom.
- Daniel Howden, managing director of Lighthouse Reports and an IJ4EU grantee, will lead a discussion on lessons from collaborative visual investigations following a screening of a Lighthouse Reports documentary titled “Smoke and Lies”.
- Lighthouse Reports Impact Director Ariadne Papagapitos will take part in Audience-first journalism: Innovative strategies to build trust in your brand.
- Stanislau Ivashkevich, founder of the exiled Belarusian Investigative Center and an IJ4EU grantee, will take part in a panel on transnational threats to journalists.
- Dessi Damianova, chief operating officer of IJ4EU grantee Bellingcat, will participate in a discussion titled Investigative journalism’s profit puzzle: Going beyond breaking even.
- IJ4EU is proud to support a workshop on operationalising mental health and wellbeing in the newsroom, led by Mar Cabra, a Pulitzer prize-winning journalist who co-founded The Self-Investigation.
