Freelance journalists Elena Ledda and Monica Pelliccia investigate the impact of the coronavirus crisis on the lives of women and girls in vulnerable situations, exploring how the pandemic has exacerbated systemic risks of violence and pushed the problem into the shadows.
The project covers Germany, Spain, Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina but is relevant to audiences across Europe. The team explores the drivers and consequences of structural violence toward women and non-binary people as well as ways to counter it.
Describing their approach as both feminist and constructivist, the journalists hope the project will serve as a useful resource not only for survivors of gender-based violence but also for friends and family, psychologists, social workers, government officials and other journalists.
