• Grants restricted to IJ4EU grantees of the latest funding round
  • Each team eligible for at least €1,000
  • Deadline for applications: August 20

The IJ4EU fund invites grantees to apply for financial assistance to attend this year’s IJ4EU UNCOVERED Conference in Budapest on September 17 and 18.

Grants of at least €1,000 are available to each investigative team supported by IJ4EU during the latest funding round. Current grantees of both of IJ4EU’s support schemes — the Investigation Support Scheme and the Freelancer Support Scheme — are eligible.

The money is intended to help cover travel and accommodation costs for one or more team members.

The deadline for applications is August 20, 2026 at 23:59 CEST.

Organised by the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom, UNCOVERED will be hosted by the Goethe Institute Budapest.

IJ4EU’s sixth annual conference will bring together investigative journalists, editors, media experts, and press freedom advocates from across Europe to exchange ideas, build networks, and spark new cross-border collaborations.

The programme will feature workshops, snapshot sessions, and open discussions on investigative methods, emerging technologies, collaboration practices, and the challenges facing journalists today.

Participants will also have opportunities to share their own insights, invite peers into future projects and take part in conversations on everything from mental health to the sustainability of investigative reporting.

The conference will culminate in the IJ4EU Impact Award ceremony, honouring the most impactful cross-border investigations of 2026.

Team leaders of eligible IJ4EU-supported investigations are invited to apply for travel grants by filling out this short form.

Each eligible team will receive a single travel grant to manage and share at their own discretion. Teams are responsible for deciding how to allocate the funds among their members. IJ4EU will not request proof of expenditure or further details. However, all grant recipients will be required to sign a grant agreement in person at the UNCOVERED Conference.
